The 2012 JCI Edmonton Christmas Hamper Program
Why Participate?
This annual event has been creating positive change in our community for over 9 years. Last year’s contributions to the JCI Christmas Hamper Program lead to over 1,700 Edmontonians eating over 2,000 kg of turkey and over 18,000 kg of food. Plus over 750 children opened presents on Christmas Day. That’s 325 Edmonton families who would not have had a Christmas if it wasn’t for the generosity of our supporters and volunteers.

This year we hit our GOAL!
Our goal was to provide food and gifts to over 350 local families who cannot afford to do so on their own. With your help we were able to take on 3 additional inner city schools and hit our re-adjusted goal of 500! Thank you for making a difference in your community this holiday season.
We can still use your help…
So now, if you are interested in being on our waiting list for donating a hamper to a family (this will put you first on our list for next year too), would like to make a cash donation, or if you want to volunteer your time to the 2012 JCI Christmas Hamper Program on Delivery Day, we welcome your participation. Frequently Asked Questions
1. How does the JCI Christmas Hamper Program work?
On December 1st, 2012 JCI Edmonton will assign you a family number. At that time we will let you know the composition of family members and their ages. For example: Mom, 5 yr old boy, and 9 yr old girl.
2. How do I know what type of food to buy? Do I need to buy gifts for the children? Is there a spending limit?
Download the recommended grocery list.
This grocery list is intended to act as a guide to purchase food for your family(ies).
Yes, purchasing gifts for the children is mandatory. There is no stipulation on the amount that needs to be spent. Remember, these families have very little, no matter the size of the present(s) you purchase, you will change a child’s Christmas.
3. What day and time are hampers delivered?
The hamper delivery date is scheduled for Saturday, December 15th. Delivery will take place between 11:00am and 1:00pm.
The meeting place for delivery is at Northlands Edmonton Expo Centre, Hall A. You will need to register upon arrival. At that time you will be given the address of your family, as well as a turkey, and a roasting pan.
Thank you to Northlands as they continue to be a gracious sponsor in donating space for our event to take place.
4. What if I am unable to deliver my hamper?
If you are unable to deliver your hamper, you need not worry. We have an army of volunteers to help us deliver hampers for those who cannot attend.
5. What do I ship my hamper in?
The best thing to do is put all of the food in a laundry basket. Please remember to label your hamper(s) with the family number that will be provided to you on December 1st. Also, please wrap and label all presents. For example, “5 yr old boy.”
6. Do I have to be a JCI member to participate?

8. How do I know the family I am donating a hamper to is “in need?”
Although it’s not directly involved in the selection process, JCI Edmonton partners with five inner-city schools and the Christmas Bureau of Edmonton to source the families in-need. All families are qualified and cross-referenced through the Christmas Bureau to ensure there are no duplications.
